Mark Hunt’s Weather Assessment
28th June – 5th July 2010
Just a quick update as I know the underlining question amongst most is "When is it going to rain ?"
The weather is going through a bit of a change at present although it won't immediately feel like it with very warm temperatures continuing in the South-East particularly, but the glass is slowly dropping as an Atlantic low system heads in from the West and starts to feed showers in to the South-West and Wales, the North and Scotland, with the first of these arriving during Monday (28th) night (we had 3mm, but the roads are already dry).
These showers will initially track diagonally across the U.K, so the usual story of missing the South and East holds to a large degree, but the next front from this low arrives Thursday (1st July) morning to Kerry, Clare, Mayo and Sligo before pushing across the whole of Ireland reaching the East coast by late afternoon.
It's this front that may bring rain the South and East on Friday and if the weather pattern holds true, this low will then circulate back in the early part of next week bringing rain on Tuesday and particularly Wednesday and a drop to the late teens / early twenties temperature-wise.
If we do get the rain, expect Fairy rings to come in with a vengeance, as these have been notable by their absence in the U.K, though prevalent in Ireland judging by what I saw last week. As mentioned in my last weather report a time ago, the best treatment (if they need treating that is) is a quality surfactant and Azoxystrobin and, although that's a costly mix, you can count in a preventative effect on Take-All and Anthracnose at the same time. The latter is sure to be an issue with the dry Spring and weather to date.
